Truth

Are You a Fundamentalist?

Abstract

You know less than many atheists about your own religion and its sooty history, but still think God prefers you to people who are intelligent and examine the evidence?… You mock the idea of gods having sons by women, but still believe God impregnated a human twelve year old girl who gave birth to Jesus—a god who defied death and ascended into heaven, thereby making his human mother the Mother of God… A test of Christian belief.

Who Lies Sleeping?

Christianity Questionnaire

Someone has put this little questionnaire on the web.

Do you:

  1. mock the idea of gods having sons by women, but still believe God impregnated a human twelve year old girl who gave birth to Jesus—a god who defied death and ascended into heaven, thereby making his human mother the Mother of God…
  2. feel insulted when science shows we evolved from ape-like proto-humans, but willingly accept the bible that God made us from mud…
  3. disbelieve all the evidence for the scientifically established age of the Earth, but happily believe dates recorded in the bible by ancient people with no scientific knowledge…
  4. think phenomena like speaking in tongues and hysterical ecstasy show God at work, but the modern sciences, like psychology, history, geology, biology, and physics, upon which our civilization depends, cannot convince you even of demonstrable truths…
  5. deny the existence of any gods venerated by other religions, but complain of lack of respect or even blasphemy when someone denies the existence of yours…
  6. laugh at polytheists, but believe the “One True God” is a Trinity…
  7. condemn the atrocities of other gods and their followers, and atheists like communists, but support our leaders bombing innocent Arabs, and regard it as divine that Jarvey slaughtered the Egyptian’s babies before the Jewish Exodus, and ordered Joshua and the Israelites entering the Promised Land to kill everything living, women, children, and cows… but young girls they could keep for themselves!…
  8. think everyone except those who share your particular beliefs will permanently burn in hell forever, and still claim Christianity has a loving God and is a religion of love…
  9. think prayers are answered though conceding it works only for those who truly believe, sure proof then that no one does truly believe because no convincing scientific evidence has ever been produced to confirm that prayers are answered, but rather has shown they are not…
  10. know less than many atheists about your own religion and its sooty history, but still think God prefers you to people who are intelligent and examine the evidence?…

…then, yep, you are a Fundamentalist.

Before you go, think about this…

Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body; it calls attention to the development of an unhealthy state of things. If it is heeded in time, danger may be averted; if it is suppressed a fatal distemper may develop.
Churchill

The Wisdom of Carl
The spontaneous remission rate of all cancers, lumped together, is estimated to be something between one in ten thousand and one in a hundred thousand. If no more than five per cent of the 100 million who have come to Lourdes since 1858 were there to treat their cancers, there should have been something between fifty and 500 cures of cancer from spontaneous remission and therefore seeming miraculous. The total of miraculous cures accepted by the Church is about a hundred, and cancers are only about five percent of them, so the rate of spontaneous remission of cancer at Lourdes seems to be lower than if the patients had stayed at home.
